You have been a specialist throughout your career – an accountant, engineer, sales or marketing manager – and you are groomed to head your organisation. Or maybe you want to start your own business. But the transition is like crossing a minefield. You may have to lead former peers, oversee unfamiliar departments, and influence colleagues and shareholders with conflicting goals.
The General Management Programme is for you.
It aims to equip you with skills to articulate your vision, to think strategically beyond your specialisation, to ask the right questions and drive results in a fast paced and unpredictable business environment, and to make decisions that are not just based on intuition.
In its fourth year, the General Management Programme is a 14-day course over four months covering strategy, marketing, finance, leadership, and an interdisciplinary module which integrates the skills developed over the four core modules.
Participants must have more than 10 years work experience.
A certificate of participation is awarded for attending all modules.

Strategy | 25 – 27 July
Business leaders use strategy to identify their market positioning and to coordinate functional areas. This module takes you through competitive strategy and corporate strategy frameworks, strategy execution, and change management. Through case studies, you will learn from best practice organisations including those from emerging countries operating in developed markets.

Marketing | 22 – 24 August
You will explore key facets of marketing – pricing, product development, channel management and branding strategies – to identify, create, capture, deliver and communicate value to your customers. A mix of unconventional B2B and B2C case studies will expose you to different industries and markets.

Finance | 13 – 15 September
This module aims to provide a solid foundation in financial management regardless if you have finance experience and training. You should be able to identify potential financial problems facing your organisation, to recommend actions to create shareholder value, to evaluate growth opportunities, and to support corporate strategy through financial management.
Personal Leadership | 24 – 26 October
Your success as a leader depends on your ability to understand and motivate each team member to achieve individually and collectively. You may have all the technical skills and knowledge to understand what needs to be done, but the complexity of personal motivation and relationships can make the job of a leader challenging. You will learn the importance of developing self awareness and understanding your impact on others. You will learn how to adopt a flexible leadership styles; how to coach teams; how to develop personal influence; deal with conflict; and manage a multigenerational and multicultural workforce. You will also develop an action plan to lead personal and organisational change. Prior to the module, participants have to complete a leadership profile assessment.
Integration | 27 October
In this interdisciplinary module, the Strategy and Finance faculty will integrate what you have learnt across all modules and you will wear the hat of a CEO to analyse and identify the future positioning of a company that operates in a highly competitive environment and has to manage multiple stakeholders that have conflicting goals.
Entrepreneurial Leadership | 28 October
The programme culminates in a wrap-up where you will reinforce what you have learnt in each module with the Course Facilitator, and learn the essential skills and process of becoming an entrepreneurial leader.
